Each time a significant honors show draws close, there’s always a clamor for introducing fresh award types to honor overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of followers who have specialized interests.
My colleague made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and inevitably spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason cinema institutions avoid this approach. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.
Current Gaming Award Categories
The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types effectively encompass many game types, making space possible for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked for anything during that awards season
- Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
- Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often small games, however the design of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.
And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers are working at the demanding boundary game development, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
